Sometimes the body needs more than words.
What is Nourishing Touch?
Nourishing Touch is a gentle approach to safe, compassionate and respectful touch.
It can be incorporated into individual therapeutic work, where touch is offered by the therapist to support soothing, regulation, presence and embodied awareness.
It can also be explored in workshops, where people are introduced to the principles of safe and supportive touch and have the opportunity to experience giving and receiving touch with another person.
All Nourishing Touch work is fully clothed and non-invasive.
In individual therapy:
Where appropriate, Nourishing Touch can be incorporated into your individual therapeutic session. Touch is offered by the therapist with care and sensitivity, supporting soothing, regulation, presence and greater awareness of your embodied experience.
The work is always personalised to you and your therapeutic needs. Consent, choice and clear boundaries are central throughout.
RESET
Creating space to slow down and support the nervous system to settle.
RESTORE
Supporting a greater sense of ease, presence and connection with your body.
RECONNECT
Bringing awareness to the ‘here and now’, your body and your own experience.
In workshops:
Exploring Nourishing Touch
Workshops offer an opportunity to explore the experience of safe, supportive touch in a relaxed and carefully facilitated environment. They are experiential, giving participants the opportunity to explore both giving and receiving touch in a safe, compassionate and non-judgemental way.
The touch is offered without expectation or judgement, and without trying to create a particular response, giving each person the space to experience touch in their own way. Both the person giving and the person receiving Nourishing Touch may notice thoughts, sensations, feelings or other responses arising during the exchange. The receiver is invited to notice their experience with curiosity, while the giver is encouraged to remain present and attentive to the simple act of giving, allowing their own responses to be noticed without becoming the focus of the exchange.
Participants learn simple principles for giving and receiving touch respectfully, including seeking consent, communicating preferences, noticing responses and respecting boundaries.
All workshop activities are fully clothed and non-invasive. These are experiential workshops where participants explore the giving and receiving of Nourishing Touch. Consent, personal boundaries and listening to your own needs are central throughout, helping to create an experience that is safe, respectful and comfortable for everyone.
