BRIEF TRANSACTIONAL ANALYSIS (TA) THERAPY

Brief TA Therapy will introduce you to working with:- TA models, self-soothing techniques and other self-management tools, that enable people to function more successfully in society and lead to greater autonomy i.e. self knowledge, self respect, self worth and healthy relationships.

FOR WHOM MAY BRIEF TA THERAPY BE USEFUL?

YOUR REASONS FOR COMING TO THERAPY ARE UNIQUE TO YOU, THOUGH SOME TYPICAL THOUGHTS OF A PERSON  FOR WHOM BRIEF TA THERAPY MAY BE USEFUL, MAY RANGE AS FOLLOWS:-

  • “I’m mostly OK but deep down, I feel that something important is missing from my life or that I  do not have quite the same ‘spark’ or drive as other people.”-  It may be that; to the outside world you may look fine but inside, you struggle quite a lot and life does not feel easy.

OR

  • .“Life is such a struggle…,  Despite my best efforts, I seem to constantly sabotage myself and end up in a familiar ‘bad place’ again and again.”  – It may be that; you are struggling to maintain a functional level of day to day living.

OR

  • “Life works and I am mostly ‘in the flow’. I can cope with most that life can throw at me but I would like to do this more easily. –  It may be that; all is well but you still want to ‘step up’ to an even higher level of functioning.

Brief TA therapy is a conversational therapy in which we form a therapeutic relationship.  You will be invited to join as an active participant and I (your therapist), will travel alongside you, on your journey to finding ways, to know yourself; to find your inner resources, to recognise and increase your level of resilience. HOW DO YOU WANT TO BE SEEN IN THE WORLD?

Working with Brief TA, can help you see into the layers of who you are and how the conditioning of parents, education, institutions, careers, environment i.e. ‘social conditioning and control’ has impacted upon you as a person.

The way that your thoughts, beliefs and behaviours have been shaped, affect how you live your life e.g. your relationships, your idea of self and your purpose, how you view yourself and how you view others i.e. How you show up in the world.

A course of Brief TA Therapy is typically  delivered in 12 weekly sessions of upto 1 hour + a free consultation to establish if Brief TA therapy would be beneficial for you.  Currently these sessions are being held online, using the ‘zoom’ platform.  Your therapy will also be supported with educational videos.

SHOW UP, IN A WAY THAT YOU WANT TO BE SEEN

During your therapy, we may work with some or all of the following approaches:- 

CONTRACTS FOR CHANGE: We will work together with safe and clear communication.

EGO STATES – “THE THREE VOICES”: support you with ways to look at a problem from 3 different ego states – and you can choose which one works best for you.

GAME THEORY: Examine a situation from the different 3 roles of Persecutor, Victim and Rescuer and explore ways to step out of the Game, using ‘The Wisdom Triangle’.

STROKES: Use the ‘Time Structuring’ of Strokes to look at ways to get healthy stimulus from other strokes, instead of from destructive Games.

LIFE POSITIONS:  Identify when you are in a game and look at what the most common position is that you find yourself in the game. Identify how to be okay.

WINDOW OF TOLERANCE: An insight into when you are at your most resilient.

HERE AND NOW FOCUS: Helping you to protect yourself against both neurological and emotional ‘overwhelm’ by entering the safety of the “here and now”.

DEPOTENTIATION: Brief TA therapy is designed with safety in mind and for working in ways that help you stay safe, by giving your nervous system a chance to depotentiate and be soothed.

THREE PRIMAL MOVEMENTS: When shown these, you can use these to help to keep you in a ‘safe place’ during our work together.

 The resources and the insights that you gain during your therapy, are there for you to take forward and use, throughout the rest of your life.

I have completed training with the Gerry Pyves Academy, which is accredited by the National Council of Integrated Psychotherapists (NCIP).
